Cutting Edge Fly-Fishing Gear for Spring 2015

Spring is almost here, and warmer temperatures aren’t the only reason we’re excited. The change in seasons means it’s time to go fishing and hit the rivers, lakes and streams with three innovative new products: the new Apex Fly-Fishing Rod, the L.L.Bean Nipper and the redesigned Rapid River Vest Pack.

“For us, innovation and functionality combined with quality is everything,” says Developer Kevin M. “We have to go above and beyond, because unlike many competitors who focus on one category of fly-fishing product, we develop it all – from wading shoes to fly rods and everything in between. Our products have to stand out, and be the most functional you can find, and these three products really are.”

Apex Fly Rod

The New L.L.Bean Apex Fly Rod

The new, sleek, autumn-orange Apex Fly Rod has earned its spot at the very top of our collection, thanks to a slew of attractive attributes, including a super durable reel seat spacer made of a layered resin material called G10. G10 is a stable material that won’t swell, absorb water, shrink, crack or corrode – and L.L.Bean is the first to use it in fly rods.

Other impressive features of the Apex Rod include a great taper with exceptional functionality, a new innovative rod tube that virtually eliminates the struggle of getting the fly-rod sock in and out of the tube and – best of all – a great price for a high-end rod.

L.L.Bean Nipper

 The New L.L.Bean Nipper

Nippers are designed to cut and trim leaders and tippets, and are a must-have tool for fly fishing. Many are mechanically spring loaded and therefore vulnerable to failure. But the innovative new L.L.Bean Nipper relies on opposing magnets – a simple idea, yet highly functional – and we are the first to offer it. Other features include a more ergonomic design with larger blades, and it can also be engraved, making it a great gift idea.

Rapid River Vest Pack

The L.L.Bean Rapid River Vest Pack

“Our old vest pack served us well for the last 10 years,” says Kevin, “but we knew it was time for a major upgrade. We identified and introduced 23 new features and functions. We combined what we saw in the market with customer reviews and our own team’s expertise to come up with this new high-tech design. Right now it’s one of the best vest pack combos out there.”

For anyone who loves to fly fish, the vest pack offers tons of storage and a place for everything – including an innovative system for carrying your fly-rod tube and a storage pocket that serves as a mini work station.

The vest pack was designed for comfort, with lots of adjustment points, an inside ventilation system and a hydration port – making that trek through the woods to your favorite fishing hole even more enjoyable.

And finally, don’t miss our annual Freeport, Maine Spring Fishing Weekend, March 13-15, 2015.  Please see the full schedule of events.
