At the start of August, a group of L.L.Bean employees traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. The Summer Market was our chance to check out what other retailers are up to and show off the gear and apparel we’re working on for this fall and winter. It also gave us a great excuse to get excited about winter, and to start making plans for our adventures for the upcoming seasons.
We weren’t the only ones getting excited about snow days and fresh powder. We invited snowboarding champion and L.L.Bean testing and design partner Seth Wescott to join us at the show and share his excitement and expertise – after all, he helped us design and test some of the outerwear we’ll be debuting this winter.
Seth worked alongside our merchants, speaking one-on-one with editors and reviewers to discuss the design features he finds most valuable in our outerwear, and his experiences field testing it outside of the lab. Seth’s ability to test our gear in tough, remote conditions, the way only an expert can, helped us create gear and apparel that you won’t find anywhere else.
Take our new Headwall Ski Jacket, for example. Seth worked on the jacket with us from the very early prototype stages, and tested it all last winter. It features warm, water-resistant “Primadown” insulation (a combination of down and PrimaLoft®), a waterproof TEK2 shell, and functional features including a powder skirt, vents and an adjustable, helmet-compatible hood.
“Combine this with a microgrid fleece,” said Seth, “and I’m warm pretty much anywhere I go in the world.”
Keep an eye on L.L.Bean and you’ll see lots of exciting new gear and apparel for cold-weather adventures, including the high-performance Traverse line that Seth helped us design. We’re sad to see summer go, but winter promises to be a whole lot of fun too! Special thanks to Trailspace for sharing their video interview of Seth Wescott.
