At L.L.Bean, we’ve always done our best to help people get out and enjoy the outdoors. As part of our partnership with Kikkan Randall, we’re also proud to support Fast and Female, an organization that shares a very similar goal: to empower and inspire young women through sport.
Fast and Female was started in 2005 by cross-country skier Chandra Crawford and her teammates on Canada’s national cross-country ski team. Since the first event at Silver Star Mountain Resort in British Columbia, Fast and Female has grown into an international program incorporating many different sports, athletes, coaches, administrators and clubs. At events led by athletes, girls are exposed to healthy role models who inspire them to gain the confidence and leadership they need to reach their full potential.
Fast and Female follows two mantras: “Spread the love,” to get as many girls hooked on a healthy and active lifestyle as possible, and “Dominate the world,” to rejoice in the possibilities for female leadership. Fast and Female is especially important for young girls, because by age 14, girls are dropping out of sports at two times the rate of boys. Sports can help reduce stress and depression, as well as promote life skills, increased self-esteem and positive goal setting.
If there’s a girl in your family who might enjoy being part of a Fast and Female event, you’re in luck – on May 17, there will be two Fast and Female “Power Hours” at our flagship campus in Freeport, led by world champion cross-country skier Kikkan Randall. These engaging and inspiring hours of activity for girls 9-19 will help build confidence and leadership – in addition to being a whole lot of fun. Online registration is required. Sign up today, because space is extremely limited.
We’re proud to have the chance to support Fast and Female through our partnership with Kikkan. To learn more about this great organization, visit the Fast and Female Web site.
