L.L.Bean and #AdventuresNYC

Sometimes the best place to escape the city is right in the middle of it. This past weekend, the L.L.Bean Bootmobile was in New York City for the 9th Annual Adventures NYC, a Backpacker magazine event in Central Park. The premise of the event? Discover adventure right in your own backyard.

The event brought outdoor brands and outdoor-lovers together for a day of fun and games. From The North Face Zone to the Bear Naked Climbing Zone to our fantastic water-sports setup, explorers got their adventure fix in Manhattan’s greenest space. Our L.L.Bean Aquatic Zone was a hit and featured some of our Outdoor Discovery Schools favorites: kayaking, fly casting and stand-up paddleboarding.

“Zone One” gave visitors the opportunity to kayak on the lake by Bethesda Fountain for 15-minute intervals.

You could find paddleboarding at Zone Two, where our expert ODS instructors took visitors through a basic stand-up paddleboarding lesson.

Zone 3 was fly casting with our ODS fly-fishing pros. This Vine video captures a sweet fly-casting moment and provides a peek at some other event activities, too.

The event kicked off the Bootmobile’s Outdoor Discovery Summer Tour with a splash – quite literally. In addition to taking photos with the Bootmobile, visitors could enter to win one of the following $500 prize packages: Summer Hiking, Beach Fun and Summer Camping.

The Bootmobile is bringing the #OutdoorDiscovery tour to Pittsburgh, Philly and Chicago next. Check out the full 2013 Bootmobile Summer Tour Schedule.
