Outdoor Discovery Schools – Time to Plan Your Summer Biking Adventure

Home to some of the most beautiful scenery Mother Nature has to offer, Maine is filled with hiking trails, ocean views and camping spots – and we love sharing it with you. One of the best ways to explore Maine is through an L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools bike tour led by one of our expert guides.  Tours begin in June, and we provide all the necessary biking equipment, including helmets.

Lighthouse and Lobster Bike Tour – $99 per person: Explore the coast of Southern Maine, with stops at two historic lighthouses along the way. You’ll enjoy a (classic and delicious!) lobster roll for lunch while taking in the salty sea air.

Itinerary:

Meet your guides at the starting point in South Portland and receive a short primer in safety practices and the gear you’ll be using. Then you’re off on a scenic ride along the breathtaking rocky coast of Southern Maine. After a seaside lunch featuring a lobster roll, your afternoon route will take you to Portland Head Light at Fort Williams and Spring Point Light. You’ll get to explore these historic lighthouses on a guided tour before returning to the starting point in the late afternoon.

Two-Day Maine Coastal Bike Tour – $345 per person: Spend a weekend touring the Maine coast and countryside in an adventure that’s perfect for the whole family. Top off your first day with a steak or lobster dinner served at our private waterfront campground, and then sleep soundly in tents we prepare for you.

Itinerary:

Meet your guides at the Paddling Center on Casco Bay and settle into our private waterfront campground. Then you’re off on a scenic coastal ride that winds through pastoral landscapes and ocean viewpoints to a local marina where you’ll enjoy lunch. You will ride up to 20 miles on day one. Return to camp for a relaxing evening with dramatic waterfront views of Casco Bay.

On day two, start your day with a delicious breakfast followed by a short shuttle ride to our starting point in South Portland. Spend the day biking to spectacular sites along Maine’s rocky coast. Stop to view classic lighthouses and enjoy a picnic lunch beside rocky cliffs. You will ride up to 20 miles on day two before returning to the Paddling Center around 4 p.m.

You can design your own bike tour, too – an ideal activity for a family reunion, staff event or wedding guests. For more details on everything, visit our site or call 1-888-552-3261.

We hope you’ll discover the outdoors with us soon. What’s your favorite place to go biking in Maine? Do you prefer the coastline or the countryside? Tell us about your cycling expeditions, and we’ll donate $1 to our Million Moment Mission.
