Celebrating 100 Years with 100 Adventures

Exploring the outdoors is part of our DNA at L.L.Bean, and for our 100th anniversary celebration, we hope to share our passion for the outdoors by helping you to find yours. That’s why our Outdoor Discovery Schools® is offering 100 outdoor adventure courses during our anniversary year.

Experience the Outdoors with L.L.Bean's Outdoor Discovery Schools

This year, we’ve filled our course calendar with new and exciting ways to get outside, like dogsledding, birding, sea kayaking and more. Our outdoor experts will also be on hand at all appearances of the L.L.Bean Bootmobile in the coming year, hosting one-of-a-kind adventures in unique locations. Check the L.L.Bean event calendar for upcoming Bootmobile appearances.

But what exactly is the Outdoor Discovery Schools?

Canoeing with Outdoor Discovery Schools

Have you ever purchased a piece of gear with the highest hopes of getting outdoors and then at some point realized maybe you didn’t fully understand its capabilities or might not really have the skill to make full use of your new equipment?

At an Outdoor Discovery Schools course, participants learn the skills needed to use outdoor gear to its fullest potential, and, more important, to really enjoy time spent outside. The Outdoor Discovery Schools offers excursions based on level of expertise, interest, time and budget. From archery to paddleboarding, there’s something for everyone!

We’ll donation $1 to the National Park Foundation for each Outdoor Discovery Schools participant in 2012.  Your participation helps support our Million Moment Mission, which helps kids take the first step on the path to an active, healthy outdoor lifestyle.

Visit or call an L.L.Bean store to sign up for a local adventure. If you’ve participated in one of our L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools adventures, share your story with us.

I would love, love, love a kayaking adventure. It is my latest passion and my husband and I go out on the water whenever we can.

A very popular outdoor discovery school adventure for me was as a participant in the overnight camping/biking weekend in Freeport, ME I did in Sept. 2009. Even though it poured rain all night long (remnants of a hurricane), not a drop leaked into the tent. At daybreak, I thought we would be eating breakfast in the rain, but luckily the clouds parted and we had the best blueberry pancake breakfast made for us by our LL Bean guides. Bean provided the bikes, campgrounds, and food. It was just spectacular.
