Five Questions with Musician Diane Birch

This Saturday in Discovery Park, singer-songwriter Diane Birch will be performing songs from her album Bible Belt. Though she’s currently on the road, we were able to chat with Diane before she performs for us here in Freeport.

Your music seems to combine a lot of different genres. How would your describe it to someone who hasn’t heard your music before?
Vocally honest and emotional piano-based Pop songs often causing tears on the dance floor.

Tell us about your upcoming album. Do you have a favorite track to perform off it?
My new album is a definite evolution from the first one. It’s a lot more reflective of the diversity in my musical influences and creative pull. I’ve been through so much in my personal life during the course of making this album and the songs really reflect the wide range of emotions I’ve experienced and celebrate the journey from the darkest corner to the lightest peak.

Do you have any great touring stories from being on the road?
My favorite tour story is the time my suitcase flew out the back of the tour van and I didn’t realize it until I got to Philly for my show. Turns out a really nice guy from the Blue Man Group found it and (thankfully!) my email was on there. He contacted me to let me know.

What’s a concert that stands out to you as a really great performance?
Performing in Tokyo, Japan, at Club Quattro. The crowd was so amazing and kind; I remember feeling completely lost in the connection I had with them.

Finish this sentence. The first thing I’d like to do when I arrive in Maine is…
Eat a whoopie pie!

Diane Birch will be at Discovery Park in Freeport on July 13 at 7:30 p.m. For a full list of upcoming concerts at Summer in the Park, you can check out our full schedule of events.
